I went down to visit as Jenna seemed to be struggling a bit with her “time of the month.” Hey, any excuse to go see my Jenna, I will take! The visit was fairly lackluster at first because since we were self-paying this time, I tried to find the cheapest motel possible. That was origianally the motel6 in Marion, but since they lost power right before we were to check in, they sent us to America’s Best Value Inn in Murphysboro. That motel was pretty typical although pretty overpriced for what you got. The insult to injury was the level of ice and snow in the parkinglot which they didnt bother to plow or salt. All I can say is I am extremely happy to have bought snow tires for the car because otherwise we would have been stuck, literally. I made the motel clerk give us a $20 discount on our 2-day stay because I had to literally chip a safe path from the motel room to the car for Jenna, or else she might have slipped and fallen. The clerk admitted he had salt and a shovel, but was just too lazy to actually use either of them.
Anyway, I looked online on the assembly of god website for some local churches we could check out, and I settled on Calvary Campus Church because it was the closest to Jenna’s living situation, and it mentioned an international theme which was intruguing. We showed up what I assumed was a bit late but it turned out we were in fact a bit early.
It also turned out that we showed up on “Missions Sunday” which meant that there was a massive international flavor to the entire services. Singing and dancing groups from literally all over the world were there, and it was mightilly impressive to see so many cultures united around one common theme, each expressing theirselves in their own way, but about the same thing.
After services I took Jenna up to the front to have the pastor pray over Jenna, which he did, and it was very moving. Im trying to get it so that Jenna can be taken to church even when I’m not there, but that is a work in progress.
I’m going to be going back in two weeks for my birthday/valentines day, and we’ll be back to Calvary methinks, or maybe to the other AG (Assembly of God) church in town (which I forget the name of), just to see what its like over there. I really liked the “young” atmosphere of the Calvary congregation however, and maybe Jenna can make some friends there as well. Really, what I’d like to do is just visit church after church, after church, and get as many people praying for Jenna as possible. WHEN she is fully restored, we can go on another tour of the same churches, proclaiming capital-V VICTORY!
